Match Report:
Our team produced an outstanding performance to lift the Xmas Cup after a dramatic and hard-fought tournament played in a league format followed by knockout stages.
The competition started with a strong opening win against Hoyland, securing a tight 1–0 victory and setting the tone for the day. However, the next two matches proved challenging, with narrow defeats of 2–1 and 4–0 testing the squad’s resilience and determination.
Going into the final league match, the situation was clear — a win was needed to reach the semi-finals. The boys responded in the best possible way with a dominant 4–0 victory over Tinsley, showcasing brilliant teamwork, composure, and attacking quality to secure qualification for the knockout stages.
The semi-final against Bolsover was a tense and physical contest. Our defence stood strong throughout the game, limiting chances and showing excellent organisation. After a hard-fought 1–1 draw, the match went to penalties. Goalkeeper Dexter was the hero, producing an incredible save to help secure a 3–2 shootout victory and book our place in the final.
The final saw a rematch against Hoyland in what turned out to be a thrilling encounter. Alfie Lowe broke the deadlock with a fantastic goal to put us ahead. Unfortunately, Hoyland equalised shortly after, and the match finished 1–1, sending the final to penalties once again.
Once more, Dexter stepped up on the biggest stage, making two outstanding saves as we claimed a 2–1 penalty shootout victory to be crowned Xmas Cup champions.
This was a brilliant team achievement and a true testament to the hard work, commitment, and attitude shown by every player. The boys defended superbly throughout the tournament, showed great character when under pressure, and supported each other from start to finish.
A fantastic cup win and a performance everyone connected with the team can be proud of. Well done, lads! 👏⚽🏆
